How to get your skin glowing after 50 (step by step)

As a facialist, I'm often asked what actually makes a difference to skin after 40 or 50.

The good news is you don't need expensive treatments to see results - but you do need the right steps, in the right order.

This is the exact structure I use in my facials, adapted so you can do it safely and effectively at home.

Step 1: Cleanse Properly

Double cleanse using a gentle, non stripping cleanser. In the salon we use creamy wash off cleansers; Meso Fusion Deep Cleanser with hyaluronic acid or Bio Therapeutic Hydra Cleanse. Both are suitable for mature skin and all skin types.

At home, use a gentle cream or gel cleanser.

Step 2: Gentle exfoliation (this is where glow comes from)

As we age our skin cells take longer to turnover so our skin appears dull with uneven texture. It is best to Exfoliate 2 times a week avoiding harsh scrubs which can be damaging. If your skin is sensitive start with exfoliating once a week.

In the salon we use enzyme exfoliation Genosys Epi turnover boosting peeling gel or Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Bio Therapeutic foam peel with AHAs.

At home, try using a gentle enzyme or mild AHA exfoliation product.

Step 3: LED or massage

LED Light Therapy or massage helps boost results. Red LED and infra red light therapy has a whole host of benefits; from increasing collagen production, boosting skin health, decreasing inflammation, improving sun damage and fine lines. In the salon we use Dermalux LED light therapy.

At home, LED light therapy should be applied to clean dry skin for best results. Use your device for the recommended amount of time.

Step 4: Treatment Step

Hydration is key to mature skin. We use serums from Meso Fusion and Bio Therapeutic. In the salon we use a range of serums from hyaluronic acid to peptides.

At home, look for serums with hyaluronic acid, peptides and ceramides.

Step 5: Mask

The mask should be hydrating which should plump and calm the skin. In the salon we use sheet masks from Genosys and Bio Therapeutic or Meso Fusion's Hyaluronic Cryo Mask

At home, look for sheet masks with collagen, hyaluronic acid.

Step 6: Moisturise and Protect.

Moisturise your skin and protect with SPF 30+ if your doing the facial in the day time.

You don't need to do every step perfectly to see a difference. Consistency is far more important than using lots of products.

If you focus on gentle exfoliation, hydration, and supporting your skin barrier, you'll notice your skin becoming brighter, smoother, and more comfortable over time.
